Folk Medicine
Folk medicine
has been handed down through generations just to help people with their
injures. I am going to be writing details I learned through,’’ Medicine Past
and Present, ’’ The Bridge Dancers,’’ and, ’’ New Doctor. ’’ I am going to tell
you what I learned through these stories. These stories are all about folk
medicine and how it helps people. These stories will tell you all about folk
medicine and why it is important.
Past and Present
One thing I
learned about folk medicine from this story is that ancient Egyptians used
moldy bread for wounds. Another thing I learned is that chewing willow tree
bark will help give away pain. The last thing I learned is that the Chinese
used herbal treatments to help illness.
The Bridge Dancers
One thing I
learned was that tansy could keep bugs away and it could help give birth to
babies. The second thing I learned was that yellow-eyed daisies could help
injures and poultice is made out of yellow-eyed daisies. The last thing I
learned is that an herb medicine is a type of medicine that could save people
before they become fatal.
The New Doctor
One thing I
learned is that red liquid could be God’s blood or it could be tomato juice.
Another thing I learned about folk medicine is that one way to stay healthy is
to eat green leaves mixed with meat or beans. The last thing I learned from
this story is that calabasilla leaves could keep bugs away and it could help
injures.
Folk medicine
was used thousands of years ago and some people still use it. Folk medicine is
in, ’’ Medicine Past and Present’’ The Bridge Dancers’’ and ’’ New Doctor.’’
These stories helped me write this article. After you read my story you will
know as much as I do that folk medicine is very important in the world and
people will use it for thousands of years. This is my article.
Scientific
Medicine
By: Gabriella
Scientific medicine has been around for years just to
help the people who need this cure. I am telling you what I learned through the
stories,’’ Past and Present’ ‘ Sewed up his Heart’ and ‘ New Doctor.’ These
three stories will tell you all about scientific medicine and how it helps
people.
Past and Present
One thing I
learned about scientific medicine from this story is that the Black Plague
could be destroyed by scientific medicine. Another thing I learned is that
scientific medicine could help people by saving their lives, Getting rid of
coughs, cold, and a whole lot of other stuff. The last thing I learned about
scientific medicine is medicine that is made scientifically.
Sewed up his heart
One thing I
learned is that Dr. Dan was able to save a man’s life with using scientific
medicine. Another thing I learned about scientific medicine is that is that Dr.
Dan used it to help the heart. The doctors from ‘ Sewed up his Heart’
considered the heart surgery very unpredictable.
New Doctor
One thing I learned about scientific medicine
is that a stethoscope could see how the heart is doing and how healthy it is.
Another thing I learned is that doctors use some kind of cloth to take blood
pressures. The last thing I learned about scientific medicine was to help the
little girl’s scab.
In conclusion,
reading this you will see that scientific medicine has been used through great
stories. This story will help you and it will help me. In the introduction, I
told you a lot about scientific medicine, that these stories are very helpful
to the brain. This story will help kids find their most creative selves. Tell
me, what have you learned about scientific medicine?
God’s
Neighborhood
My dream is to get together
many people to clean up the place that God created which is now called Los
Angeles. My family will put a trashcan at every corner; my neighbors put a
trashcan in every park and clean them up. I will also have my cousins come over
and paint some houses. Maybe I will get
some of my friends to help me pick up all the trash in every parking lot.
I will have my grandma and
my mother plant new flowers in every park; I will even have my two sisters and
my father water some lawns in the city. I could have my Uncle Paul and Aunt
Shairy help me pick up the trash on every sidewalk. I think we could make God’s
creation a little more protective. We could pick up all the glass and the trash
that people drop on the floor.
In addition, that is my story about God’s creation.
Maybe even you can help me
Too Late
One day in
class, we had a new student, her name was Jade. Jade was a very smart person in
the 3rd grade, but she did not know anything that was going on in our class.
Jade started getting dizzy; she did not feel too well. Finally, it was recess
and Jade was hit in the head. She did not who she was and what she needed to
do, Jade saw the gate open and she walked over it and stopped in the middle of
the street. Jade had no idea what the other kids on the play ground were
yelling about, suddenly she saw a car coming really fast, and Jade thought it
was a part of a game and the other students wanted her to bring the car to
them.
She didn’t know
how to stop the car so she just waited there until she knew what to do, in a
rush the car smashed into Jade and she was just lying there, the bell rang and
everybody an into their classes and I was the only one on the play ground to
try to save her. I saw this skateboard on the sidewalk, then I put Jade on top
of the skateboard, rolled her to a shady spot so nobody would see us, I put my
ear on her jest, and I didn’t hear a heart beat.
I thought she
was dead but I didn’t give up. I tried
waking her up, I even poured water on her head but nothing happened exempt she
was all wet then I knew that I couldn’t do anything because I was too late, so
I got a nurse and she took Jade to the nurses office and called Jade’s parents
and tolled them that their daughter was no longer alive.
And that’s my story.
Brain Control
BY: Gabriella
One day I walk
to this house selling candy, and a little girl plants a microchip that makes me
do anything that girl told me to do. And she said, ‘ I command you to do all of
my chores for the rest of the day.’ Therefore, I did. I cleaned her room,
vacuumed her carpet, water the plants, I even went to the store and bought food
to make dinner. This girl had total control over me. This girl had so much fun
having me do everything so she had me do it for the past 2 weeks. She takes the
microchip off when I have to go to bed.
At night I
felt like someone was controlling me and I did not like the feeling, but anyway
I steel went to sleep. In the morning, I was getting to go to school, but
suddenly I see this girl rushing to me with a square that had a blinking light.
Then I knew she was the bad feeling, so I ran to her and snatched the chip
away, and then I threw it on the floor and then I stomped my foot on it.
The microchip
was destroyed and the girl had to do her chores on herm own from now on. I say
it was a great ending for someone with an evil mind. Now I could get back to my
life and go to school and on Sundays, I could go to church. That is all I have
to say about the evil girl and the microchip. Therefore, that is the end of my
story.

Butterflies
are sweet,
Butterflies
are colorful,
There not like
birds,
There not like
bats,
They are
creatures that transform,
They are like
pretty birds,
There like a
nice rainbow,
Most of all
there like you
And that’s my
poem

I am going to tell you how the pioneers lived and what they did during
the past. The pioneers have done some amazing things, and I would like to tell
you what they did.
First of all trapping
was so successful that Smith decided to travel to his camp at the Great Salt
Lake to find to more trappers. Smith and his men had become the very first
people from the United States to cross the mighty Sierra Nevada. Like
Jediah Smith, Stearns saw the opportunity to find wealth in California. Stearns
so
successful
in his business that he became the wealthiest man in Los Angeles.
Some things
were very difficult, like after two failures in business, he decided to go to California
to start a new life. In 1846, a group of settlers led by the Donner family got
into terrible trouble on their way to California. Only 47 people were alive
after 7 months.
Back then there were very few women and a lot of miners. The
miners had a rough cloth that was made from beavers. These miners had to look
for gold so that they could trade in for money. The miners sometimes picked up
rocks. If they’re lucky, they could pick up a fossil.
My Food
By: Gabriella
One day I was at
my cousins’ house. It was lunchtime. When Aunty Monica looked in the
refrigerator, and there was nothing in there but prune juice. Everybody hated
prune juice. My mom went to the store, but she saw were prunes, prune juice,
and prune mix.
Suddenly the
phone was ringing and Sydney answered it. The voice said, ‘ If you want your
food all you have to do is get scissors, cardboard, red paint, and a long piece
of wood. Now with the scissors cut out a peanut shape from the cardboard. With
the red paint, color the long wood red. All you have to do now is to glue the
peanut to the top of the wood. On the floor one of you kids have take this
thing and say,‘ Food come back.’ And tap the floor really hard.’
So Nathan did
it. He grabbed the stick, and did what the man said. He tapped the floor really
hard and said,’ Food come back.’ So everybody got food, and nobody had to eat
prunes ever again. If old people like it, they can eat it.
Now everybody
has his or her food back.

I learned plenty like our word profusely. We also learned a whole
lot about folk medicine. And we also learned about dividing 4 digit quotients.
We even learned about Jedediah Smith and Indians killed that he. I also learned
that the Indians used to own California. I even learned that the stories, ‘ New
Doctor’ and ‘ The Bridge Dancers’ have a lot to do with folk medicine. I also
learned that the Indians were first to come to California. I even learned that
a long time ago the Chinese would chew on bark from a willow tree to reduce
pain. Another thing I learned was that the ancient Egyptians used herb treatments
to heal wounds. I even learned that a parallel circuit could still light up
even if 1 or 2 light bulbs are unscrewed. And I learned that a series circuit
couldn’t light up if 1 light bulb is unscrewed. I also learned that the Spanish
left California and came back to create missions. I even learned that the hole
in the volcano is called a crater. I even learned that days could go past
faster if you have fun in school. And that’s all I learned this week.
Moreover, that is my story.
What I learned
I am
going to tell you what I learned through out the week.
This week I leaned about vivid verbs. Vivid verbs are
words that make sentences more interesting. I also learned about circles, and
that they have a radius, diameter, and a circumference. The circumference is
the outer ring of the circle. The third
thing I learned was how to turn mixed fractions into improper fractions. The
fourth thing I learned is that rotational symmetry is complicated and ordinary
symmetry is not complicated at all. Our class also
started a new unit. The unit is called, ‘ Island of the Blue Dolphins’.
Just
yesterday, everybody has done a poster about the, ‘ Rules for Survival’. These
rules for survival are from the story, ‘ Island of the Blue Dolphins’.
Another thing I learned is that
Bolivia is in South America. I also learned about multisyllabic words. I even
learned about the early California.
In addition,
that is what I learned this week.
Patterns of Gray Whales

Reproduction- The
newborn calf drinks 50,60,70, and 80 pounds of its mothers’ milk each day. The
gray whale makes sounds such as grunts, clicks, and whistling.
Migration- The gray whale
travels for a long migration that is stated from the Artic Ocean to the coast
of Mexico and back each year.
Diet- The gray
whale eats small fish, squid, and other tiny organisms that it finds on the
ocean floor.
Social Groups- The
gray whale travels in about three whales or hundreds of whales for a large
group.
Skin & Shape- The skin of a gray
whale is usually gray with some blotchy white spots, and the gray whale has
many parasites, including barnacles and whale lice.

One day I took a plane to Alaska. My
mother let me browse the place. Soon I came upon a cave. Inside the cave were
polar bears. They were sleeping. Next, I stumbled right next to a door. Above
the door were the words, ‘ Ice Hotel ’. Inside the hotel were polar bears
acting like they were famous and rich. Another amazing thing was that they were
wearing cloths and were speaking English.
Very soon, it was
time for me to go home. When I arrived to my cabin, I smelled hot chocolate,
heard the television, saw cookies on the table, and everyone was happy.
After eating
dinner, everybody went to bed. My mother, father, sisters, and I were dreaming
pleasant dreams. My mom was dreaming about being the president, my father was
dreaming about fixing the biggest computer ever, Chloie was dreaming about
catching a beautiful butterfly, Isabella was dreaming about having bumblebees
as her friends, and I was dreaming about being part of the animal world.
In the morning, I got dressed, brushed my
teeth, and went back outside.
Soon I came upon a
wired maze. Then I said,’ This looks like fun. Maybe I should go in.’ So I did.
I went in.
When I came into a
rectangle, there was no way out.
All of the sudden, three polar bears were dropped into
the rectangle. They started to attack.
To be continued.
What I learned this week
By: Gabriella
This week we went on a
field trip to Long Beach so we can learn about the gray whale. I learned that
the gray whale sometimes comes up every 5 minutes. I also learned that gray
whales are afraid of the boats.
Another thing I
learned is about solid figures such as a cylinder, square pyramid, sphere,
cube, cone, and a rectangular prism. Some solid figures are congruent. The
cone, square pyramid, and the cylinders are congruent.
Everybody in my
class has written a story about the Artic. I think everyone is creative in his
or her own way.
We even played battle ship with Mr. Riddick. Everybody had lots of fun.
Another thing I
learned is that the gray whale is a bottom feeder. Our class even learned new
vocabulary words. Like constellation and crevasses. Our class is singing a nice
song that for 3 days and it helped us learn all the fifty states in the United
States of America.
We even learned
how to survive in the Artic. We even learned the distance of coordinate grids.
So I guess we
did learn a lot this week. In addition, we got a new student.
In
addition, that is my story on what did I learn this week.
Hi, it’s me
again. I’m still in the desert. I didn’t want to stay in the house every day.
So I went back to the desert to take some pictures.
After 3 hours I
didn’t know which way to go. I looked around and around, but I didn’t see the
town. I knew I kept walking strait, so I’ll turn around and walk that way. But
no matter how much I walked, I still couldn’t see the town.
I realized that I
was lost and I was hot and my mouth was really dry. Very soon I saw a watering
hole. I ran to it and jumped in. I realized that it was only ma morgue. Two
more hours past. My mouth is even drier
than before.
Soon I saw a camel
with a bag full of water. I ran to it. I tried to untie the bag but the camel
wouldn’t stop moving. Then I said, ‘ If I can’t have that bag then I’ll just
follow the camel.’ Then I remembered that a cactus has water, so I will cut it
with my knife and drink the water.
‘ Ahhh!’ I screamed.
‘ Hyenas are chasing me.

All of the sudden I end up in the Artic,
and I don’t know what to do. Soon some girls came up to me. They were telling me that
they were sucked into the Artic. I tolled them that I was sucked in as well.
We couldn’t feel a thing because we were
so could. We weren’t making any progress looking for food all together. So we
took our split ways.
In April 47, 2006, we met each other
once again and each had a basket full of food. These 3 girls were very happy to
see each other once again after 2 years.
Our food lasted for 2 months, and in
April 6, 2006, we were very amused that the snowstorm stopped and the sun came
up.
Laura said, ‘ You guys, a miracle has
happened! God gave us the gift of the sun.’
When some of the ice melted, we had
something to drink. The polar bears didn’t like the warm weather, so they took
off their fur.
Now the Arctic is no longer cold and
Maria, Laura, and I are happy.
And that’s my story.
Out of the Arctic
By: Gabriella
You might remember
me. I was the one being attacked by the Polar bears. I can tell you I didn’t
die. Lucky for me, I had some fish. I through the fish and the Polar bears
followed like dogs.
When I got rid of
the Polar bears, I got to finish the maze. So I did. The maze was finished
after 1 hour. When it was finished, I went back home to get more supplies.
When I arrived to the cabin, it was time to hed back to
California.
My father drove us
home, and I was sad, because I couldn’t finish my adventure.
And that’s my story.
One day I’m climbing a mountain with
my father, and all of the sudden a huge wind lifts us up and we don’t know what
to do! My father just remembered that he had a 25 feet rope, and there’s a
mountain close to us.
Every time he through
the rope, it would never pass the wind. I told my dad,’ Dad, you know how to
swim don’t you? Yes I do. Then let’s swim to the ground. But this is wind. Just
swim!
So we swam and swam, but
when we were close to the bottom, we saw a pack of wolves. We let the wind
carry us up, because we didn’t want to get eaten.
Soon the wind
stopped. WE wee falling and falling and
falling. It was a long fall, so we waited for our doom. When we fell and all of
the dust was clear, we were on pillows and 3 wolves were in front of us. We ran
and ran.
At least we survived
the wind.

First we saw a sea
lion by the dock. Then we were sailing. A few minutes later we were far from
the shore. Soon we past the middle of the ocean and started seeing some gray
whales blowing water out of their blowholes.
Pretty soon we saw
the gray whales popping out its head. I t was nice to see a whale a little
close to the boat. After that we saw some sea lions gathering around a giant,
red, metal thing. Once the whale got close enough, we saw some barnacle on the
whale.
After that somebody
saw some fish in the water. Some other kids saw plankton.
After a while, the boat
started to turn left and right. I became sea sick.
When my sickness was
over, I went to the restaurant and ate my lunch. When it became warm I started
smelling the salty water. The weather was warm a t first, but then it became
sunny and warm.
We saw many ducks
swimming in the ocean.
Now we arrived to the
shore. We got off the boat, down the stairs, and onto the school bus.
And
that’s my story about gray whales.
